Alaska's first three months were almost nothing. They had fewer than a thousand cases and 14 deaths at the beginning of July. The next three months were about eight times worse, and then it got really bad. They averaged 15,000 cases a month in November and December. Fortunately things started declining steeply after that and they're now at about a fifth of their peak.

Now that it's the end of the month and I have access to the data, I'm going to do my monthly series of reports showing New Covid Cases, Hospitalizations and Deaths per Month. To begin with, I present to you Alabama. They have had a massive improvement in their situation over the past month. They averaged 105,000 cases a month in December and January. Fortunately in February, that dropped to almost a quarter of the previous levels. You can definitely see how deaths are a lagging indicator. In February they had quite a few deaths, despite the drop in cases.

Mass Covid 19 update. More good news to report today. Cases ticked down, to 1,428, and they did 102,571 tests, so the Positive Test Rate stayed nice and low at 1.4%. Last time we had a PTR this low was November 2nd. It peaked at 8.6% on January 5th. Deaths ticked up a little, to fifty two. Total Confirmed Cases: 544,674 Total Confirmed Deaths: 15,838 Another good day in the hospitals. Twenty five people got out of the hospital today, and another twenty one got out of the ICU. That brings those numbers down to 760 and 183, respectively. Last time we had under 200 people in the ICU was November 22nd. We got down to as low at 48 on November 5th. Our most recent peak was 461 on January 13th. Back in April we were over a thousand, and we only had 50,000 cases at that point. In the last 46 days we've had 122,500 cases, and we went down 278 ICU patients. Definitely a different virus now. It's much much less deadly now. Mass Covid 19 update. Excellent news to report today. Cases ticked down, to 1,516, and they did 108,261 tests, so the Positive Test Rate dropped all the way down to 1.4%. This is excellent. Deaths stayed moderate, at forty one. Total Confirmed Cases: 543,246 Total Confirmed Deaths: 15,786 Another good day in the hospitals. Twenty three more people got out of the hospital, and another seven got out of the ICU. That brings those numbers down to 785 and 204. We're back to where we were in the middle of November with regards to our hospitalizations. It was down around 350 in the middle of the summer, and started rising again in earnest in October. Good progress though. We never maxed out our hospitals and that's a very good thing.

Re-did the Massachusetts New Covid Cases per Week chart to get a look at how we're doing. Decline slowed down, to only 200 cases less from last week to this week, but it's still a decline. We've declined steadily for the last seven weeks now. May the progress continue with the advent of mass vaccinations. So far in Mass 1,142,357 people have gotten their first shot and 480,196 people have gotten both shots. That's about 7% of the population so far.

Total Confirmed Cases: 541,730 Total Confirmed Deaths: 15,745 Good day in the hospitals. Forty six people got out of the hospital today, and another ten got out of the ICU. That brings those numbers down to 807 and 211, respectively.

Some good news on the Covid front. Ever since they started with vaccinations they have targeted nursing homes, because that's where the most vulnerable people are and where there was the highest incidence of death of any group. It seems like it's having the desired effect. Ever since vaccinations started the deaths in nursing homes has been dropping. They are now down almost 70% compared to the date of commencement. Generic US Covid deaths have also started to decline, but they were still increasing for the first month that vaccinations were underway. Very impressive statistics for the nursing homes though. Huge improvement.

Mass Covid 19 update. More good news today. Cases ticked up, to 1,928, but they did more tests than they had for 20 days, 118,144 to be exact, so the Positive Test Rate stayed at a nice low 1.6%. That's six out of the last nine days with a rate of 1.6% or lower. This is key to recovering from this pandemic. Low Positive Test Rate is the fundamental indicator of level of spread in the community. If it's only one out of a hundred or so, we're doing ok. Deaths dropped back down, to thirty three. Total Confirmed Cases: 539,996 Total Confirmed Deaths: 15,699 Another twenty two people got out of the hospital today, but two more went into the ICU. That brings those numbers to 853 and 221, respectively.
